about

Rehearsing regularly in an actual meat locker, Fahrenheit 451 was formed within the shadows of New York City in late 1984 and was Goth before the term was even coined. With a line-up that included guitarist Shell Stewart, bassist Pete Lisa, keyboardist and percussionist Nick Ferro, drummer Ed Enzyme and the then nineteen-year old vocalist Athan Maroulis, Fahrenheit 451 accomplished quite a lot in their less than 3 year lifespan. Simply put, Fahrenheit 451 played every hole in the wall in the NY & NJ area from CBGB, The Dive, The World, The Dirt Club, The Lismar Lounge, The Loop Lounge, Cat Club and many others. While the dark music scene in NYC was relatively small, Fahrenheit 451 regularly teamed up to perform with other like minded bands such as Of A Mesh or The Brain Eaters, while occasionally securing a support slot highlighted by opening for the Ramones through a hail of thrown beer cans and in Philly where they opened for Gene Love Jezebel as well as Specimen. In 1986, Fahrenheit 451's lone release entitled House of Morals was released on vinyl. Trouser Press stated "a four-song EP, melds art-rock guitar, funky bass, Stranglers-like keyboard swells and dominant neo-Latin percussion; Athan Maroulis' charismatic vocals (very Doors/Bauhaus-inspired) top off an interesting record." By 1987, Fahrenheit 451 crumbled, Ed Enzyme joined U.S. Chaos and later the Undead, Lisa formed the Cycle Sluts From Hell and Stewart joined the Lucifer Scale. Maroulis went on to front Executive Slacks, Spahn Ranch, Black Tape for a Blue Girl and is presently crooning in the moody NYC electronic trio NOIR on Metropolis Records. Thanks to Cleopatra Records, this 30th Anniversary Edition of House of Morals is presented by Gothique Records and includes the original 4 songs remastered along with Fahrenheit 451's very first 1985 recording of "Strangers On A Train," named after the Alfred Hitchcock film.
